The Jesuits built thirty missions along the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay between 1609 and 1767. The Jesuit Missions of the Guarani are, according to UNESCO, one of the most important initiatives of colonisation in South America. Seven of them are listed as cultural heritage sights.

Discovered in 1976, the Wanda Mines are 25 miles south of Iguazu and now open to the public. Here we can see where semi-precious stones such as quartz, crystal, topaz and amethyst are still being mined. It is possible to buy geodes and jewelry.

An additional sight not to miss are the Mocona falls which are highly unusual in that they run along the length of the river, rather than the width for 1.25 miles on the Uruguay river between Posadas and Iguazu.
