Itinerary

To start your Salta and Jujuy Mountain Tour, we pick you up from your hotel and travel out of the city to the west and the town known as the door to the Andes “Campo Quijano”. From this point onwards we follow the tracks of the train to the clouds up the Quebrada Del Toro which translates to “the Bull Ravine”.
The road up the ravine is a spectacular one boasting many colourful views and some breath taking scenery. The tracks of the train to the clouds has a lot of interesting features that we will look at on the way. In addition there are more than 20 bridges along its route that enable it to make this taxing journey up into the mountains.
We continue up the road passing little villages and communities on the way until we reach the highest point of the journey at the dizzying height of 4100 meters above sea level. From this area we continue on to the mining town of San Antonio de los Cobres where we will stop for a snack before continuing on.
From San Antonio we make our way towards the Salinas Grandes through the massive expanse of the Altiplano stopping along the way to take photos of the wild life we see along the way. You will have the chance to see many of the animals of the high mountains including Llamas, Vicunas, Donkeys and even Emus.
Once we arrive at the Salinas Grandes (Salt flats) you will have the opportunity to explore the strange yet beautiful white landscape. Even the buildings in this area are made of Salt, it is quite an experience.
After exploring the Salt flats we will make our way out of the Altiplano area and climb up to the highest point of this day tour at 4180 meters above sea level before winding our way down the spectacular road of the “Questa Del Lipan” or the Lipan slope.
We will arrive eventually in Purmamarca for a late lunch and then a walk around the hill of seven colours before making our way down the Sothern most part of the Quebrada de Humahuaca to San Salvador de Jujuy and on to Salta.
This is a very long and intensive trip but you get to see a huge amount in just one day.
The round trip is roughly 10 hours driving time depending on the amount of stops we make.
As always we like to stop at various locations to give you a chance to take in the scenery and stretch your legs to break up the journey.
